Do you know the chemical composition of your brain?

By Sanya Nihalani

An astounding 78% of our brain consists of just water. The rest is a mix of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, soluble organic substances and inorganic salts. There are also chemicals present that govern the working conditions of the brain; they even control what you ‘feel like’ depending on their concentrations. The most prominent ones include serotonin (controls happiness), norepinephrine (controls waking up), dopamine (responsible for motor control), and glutamate (helps learning and memory). An imbalance in the amounts of these chemicals is what can lead to development of conditions like depression. This imbalance is contributed to by many factors, including your diet.
